Skin and Anti-Aging Skin Care ProductsI researched a lot of products and reviewed a lot of information. Some of this information turned out to be incorrect and listed solely for the purpose of selling products, but I did come across some information that worthwhile, if you wanted to reduce wrinkles and improve skin tone. Because of this, I included information on this page that helps explain your skin and anti-wrinkle skin care and what’s involved. Information such as:
Why Skin Wrinkles and Why Wrinkles Develop as You AgeTo explain in common terms how wrinkles develop, we must first go over the skin and exactly what happens that causes it to wrinkle. Your skin is generally made up of 3 distinct layers. The epidermis is the outside layer of your skin, the dermis is the in-between layer, and the Hypodermis or subcutaneous, which is not actually part of the skin, but lies beneath it and connects the skin to bone and muscle. When are young, your skin has a great deal of suppleness and it retains moisture easily. The middle layer of skin, the dermis, has an resilient quality due to the fibers called elastin which helps skin look and feel young and keeps your skin wrinkle free. Elastin is a protein in our connective tissue that allows most tissues in the body to go back to their original shape after stretching or contracting. Specifically, Elastin helps skin to return to its original location when it is poked or pinched. Collagen is a protein found in the dermis, which also helps prevent wrinkles. There are twenty-eight types of Collagen, and for humans, 90% of Collagen has been broken into four broad categories. For the skin, we refer to Collagen One, which also covers tendons, the vascular system, bones, ligature (connective tissues) and organs. These are all parts of the body that become increasing frail as we age and lose large amounts of this protein. As you age, collagen and elastin are depleted, your skin gets thinner and more fragile. Moisture has a more difficult time getting to the epidermis. Unfortunately at the same time, the fat in the subcutaneous layer which gives skin a fleshy and firm look, also begins to disappear. When supplies elastin, collagen and fat depleted in your skin, your epidermis begins to sag, and wrinkles form. Unfortunately, wrinkles are prone to form in a face where facial muscle contractions have been repeated many times. If you smile or frown a lot, wrinkles will form between your nose and mouth – laugh lines or frown lines. If your face has always mirrored your emotions – your wrinkles will follow. Crow’s feet wrinkles at the corners of your eyes also form from smiling. Wrinkle lines appear between your eyes from concentration or anger. Wrinkles appear on your forehead when you express confusion or ingeniousness. That’s why so many actors and actress use Botox. For faces that are expressive, wrinkles are the consequence. Most women are taught to smile – constantly, as both a defense mechanism and a polite mask. I stopped using my smile as a perpetual facial expression when I was thirty-five. It was probably one of the reasons that it took so long for wrinkles show up on my face. Now there are a variety of reasons why some people tend to have more wrinkles than others. Diet, environmental conditions, genetics, lifestyle and smoking all add to the development of wrinkles. Regardless of who you are, if you're facial muscles contract; wrinkles will form to one extent or another. How Wrinkle Creams, Serums and Moisturizers | Lotions WorkWrinkle ReducersWrinkle reducers such as creams, serums and lotions generally work in one of several different ways. Many contain ingredients that help to stimulate the regeneration of skin cells. As more elastin and collagen is produced the skin is supposed to get smoother and more youthful looking. Other wrinkle reducers include ingredients designed to help hydrate, tone, and repair the skin.
This is why there are so many anti-wrinkle creams on the market. One product line will sell a moisturizer, cream and serum and also sell the same products for use around the eye. That’s six products all in one product line, and until I knew what each product did, I was very confused. Add to this that for the same product, there's a possibility that you'll also have an additional no-fragrance brand and a UV protector brand, you'll increase the number of products to 18. Add in cleansers...you get the basic idea. I was recoiling from the shelves in horror, trying to figure out what to buy. Obviously, proper moisturizing is key to optimal skin health. Today, many wrinkle reducers also serve as moisturizers that keep the skin properly hydrated and protect against exposure to the elements. Ideally, you want a wrinkle serum, cream or lotion that not only stimulates skin cells but also hydrates and protects the skin. |
